I spent 20 years of my career on the railway, doing roughly 3 years of ticket verification at the busiest railway junction in the Western Cape. Afterwards, I became part of the Operations department at entry level as a Metro Guard or Conductor, where I spent about 5 years. During this time, I received a certificate for 5 years accident free. Then, after completing my training as a Train Driver, I worked for almost 12 years at the controls. During my 3rd year as a Train Driver, I did the Associate in Management certificate at UCT's Graduate School of Business. After completing the certification, I received an honor from my employer named Employee of the month, for which I received an interview while driving a commercial train. This was because I performed amicably in the course I completed and I still managed to maintain some of the highest standards in the completion of my duties as a Train Driver. Unfortunately, due to the reality that Train Drivers face, namely rail fatalities, I had no choice but to walk away from this career...the last 3 years, I have been happily unemployed for the most part of it, getting a few gigs that paid, but mostly I worked for free. I have 6 children aged 18(boy) , 15(boy), 12(boy) , 10(girl) , 9(girl) and 7(boy).
